Soul Box Project Unveiling at St. John’s Episcopal Church This Weekend
This weekend marks the unveiling of the Greater Grand Haven Community’s Soul Box Project. This powerful art installation features 1,406 individually crafted origami Soul Boxes, each one honoring a life lost to gun violence in Michigan. The public is warmly invited to the opening reception on Saturday, January 31, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The event will include live music and light refreshments—no tickets or RSVP are required.
The Power of Art to Heal
Art has a unique ability to help us process grief, foster connection, and inspire hope.
Installations like the Soul Box Project provide a way for individuals and communities to come together, express solidarity, and begin the process of healing after tragic loss. Through creativity and collaboration, art reminds us that remembrance can be both collective and transformative.
A Community Remembrance Project
The installation’s 1,406 Soul Boxes symbolize the average number of annual gun violence deaths in Michigan.
Hundreds of local volunteers collaborated on the Soul Box Project, organized by Gun Violence Prevention Teams of St. John’s Episcopal Church and United Methodist Church of the Dunes. The project, part of a national effort, seeks to raise awareness and educate communities about the impact of gun violence.
Timeline & Viewing Locations
The Soul Box Project will be on display from its unveiling on January 31 through Sunday, February 15, at St. John’s Episcopal Church (524 Washington Ave, Grand Haven).
